How anonymous is anonymous chat?
To your chat partner you are anonymous. For everyone's safety it is not completely invisible: to fight misuse we keep technical data and moderators can link reports to an account, so people who misbehave can actually be kept out.
Chat messages are deleted automatically after 30 days. Our privacy policy explains exactly what we keep and why.
Tips to stay anonymous
Anonymity starts with what you share yourself:
- Use a first name or nickname.
- Don't mention your school, employer or street.
- In video chat, keep recognisable things out of view.
- Only exchange contact details once you truly trust someone, and preferably never in the first conversation.
